There's nothing like spending a few days in Ireland during the spring and summer: the days are longer, the landscape is breathtakingly green, and the temperatures are warmer. We love relaxing by the canals eating local strawberries, or hanging out near the ocean.
When the sun is out, there's truly nowhere better to be in Galway than the Salthill Promenade. This iconic coastal walk is one of the top things to do in Galway Ireland. With sweeping views of Galway Bay and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, the promenade is pure magic.

Another gem is Dr. Clare Apothecary, a place to pick up herbal teas and essential oils made from native Irish plants. I always bring back some of their goodies with me to the States. They make me feel grounded and calm, even on the busiest days.
Just a heads-up: I've been stopped more than once at airport security for carrying “suspicious leaves” after buying tea blends abroad, but it always ends in a laugh and a friendly chat with the immigration officer. As I like to say, if all else fails, a relaxing tea blend and a few drops of peppermint oil can fix just about anything.

Located just outside Galway City, Menlo Castle is very much a local spot. There are no tours, no ticket booths, just the ivy-covered ruins of a castle hidden at the end of a path that starts behind an iron gate.
You'll need to climb over the gate to walk down and see it for yourself, which only adds to the adventure. The ruins are said to be haunted, but they're perfect for dreamy photos, a quiet afternoon stroll by the river, or simply soaking in the soft, storybook atmosphere on a foggy morning.

Last but definitely not least on our list of things to do in Galway Ireland is one of our favorite experiences— the kind that transforms a fast-paced tourist checklist into something slower, more meaningful, and deeply grounding: a visit to a working sheep farm.
Just outside the village of Leenane, Killary Sheep Farm offers a soulful glimpse into traditional Irish sheep farming. With sunlight dancing off the Killary Fjord and sheep wandering peacefully across the hills, the setting feels like it was pulled from a 1800’s travel book.
You'll get to watch the skilled sheepdogs at work, herding their flock with such grace and precision that it becomes unforgettable. It's one of those rare moments that feels both cinematic and completely rooted in real, everyday life.
If you're visiting between March 17 and August 15, you'll also have the chance to bottle-feed baby lambs, an experience that is just as heart-melting as it sounds.
