Immune Boosting Juice: How To Boost Your Immune System With This Natural Green Juice

This is my favorite healthy green juice recipe! It’s great for boosting your immune system and preventing sickness, and it’s also filled with the nutrients your body needs to function optimally. You’ll notice a boost in energy and focus after drinking this regularly.

This is definitely my all time favorite juice or smoothie recipe. I first came up with the juice a few years ago during an especially cold winter, when I felt like I might be getting sick. After making this juice a few times, I was actually able to keep the sore throat away! Ever since then, it’s been my go-to drink when I need to stay healthy.

So, what’s so great about this immune boosting juice ?

This recipe is made up of natural and fresh ingredients, with no added sugars, no powders, and no processed add -ins. It’s just good old fashioned healthy food! It’s so true that there’s no substitute for the real stuff.

Everything you’ll use in this juice comes from whole vegetables, fruits, and roots.  You can even grow all of the ingredients yourself, if you have a garden and want to take it a step further!

Of course, this particular juice is the one that I came up with after lots of experimenting. If there’s an ingredient that you don’t like, or something else that you think would compliment the mixture, you can definitely customize this recipe and make it even better!

How To Make An Immune Boosting Juice

In my opinion, the secret to creating a great healthy green juice is how you proportion your ingredients. The basic categories are:

Ingredients:

  • veggies

  • fruits

  • Roots

The key is how you combine them! If you make an Immune Boosting Juice that contains only vegetables, it will be healthy but probably won’t taste very good. You want the best of both, and to do so you need to carefully balance between the three.

This is what you’ll need for 1 serving of my juice:

  • 1/4 cup of leafy greens

  • 2 peppers (peeled with no seeds)

  • 3 lemons and 4 oranges

  • 1 cup of fresh raw roots (peeled and chopped)

This should make about a cup of juice, so if you want to make more just double or triple the amounts.

Orange, lemon and ginger

1. Pick your greens

It’s a Immune Boosting Green Juice, but the focus isn’t actually on the green stuff. I like to use spinach, mostly because it’s a good source of iron and Vitamin A but also because the green color just makes the juice seem healthier! And besides, a little spinach never hurt anyone… just ask Popeye!

Note: If you’re still getting used to green juices, I recommend trying cucumber or maybe carrot. Kale and spinach will have a stronger taste.

Greens to use in an Immune Boosting Juice

  • Spinach

  • Cucumber

  • Kale

  • Carrots

  • Collard greens

2. Pick your pepper

There are two main peppers I like to use in this recipe, but you can always choose what you like best. I mostly use Jalapeno peppers, but i’ll use Cayenne when I can find it in the store.. Cayenne pepper is a great source of vitamin C, has anti-inflammatory properties, and will give your metabolism a boost.

Peppers contain the chemical capsaicin, which is what gives them their spicy and “hot” taste. Capsaicin not only acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps in weight-loss, but may even have further health benefits such as antioxidant properties and even protection against cellular damage.

  • Jalapeno Pepper

  • Cayenne Pepper

  • Habanero Pepper

3. Pick your fruits

There are many delicious fruits you can use when preparing green juice, but these are some of my favorites. They have the right mix of taste and health benefits, which makes them perfect for this recipe!

Fruits to use in an Immune Boosting Juice

  • Orange

  • Blood orange

  • Lemon

  • Lime

  • Grapefruit

  • Tangerine

3. Pick your roots

My two favorite roots to use are ginger and turmeric. I use them both because they have different health properties and I find them most effective when they work together.  You can of course use just one of them, or switch one for something that you prefer!

Best roots to use in a Green Juice

  • Ginger

  • Turmeric

  • Galangal

The ingredients I use :

  • 1/4 cup of spinach

  • 2 Jalapeno peppers (peeled with no seeds)

  • 3 lemons

  • 4 oranges

  • 1/2 cup of fresh ginger raw roots (peeled and chopped)

  • 1/2 cup of fresh turmeric raw roots (peeled and chopped)

Preparation:

It’s simple: put all of the ingredients into a juicer and start juicing away! You can add ice at the end, although I usually prefer not to. To have a more refreshing juice, you can chill the liquid in the fridge for a few hours. If it’s too strong, add a little water to dilute.

I usually drink it right away, but it’s totally fine to keep leftovers for the next day. Just store it in the fridge, and give it a good shake before drinking!

Tricks and Tips For The Best Immune Boosting Juice Recipe

Meal prep your immune boosting juice: Although it is not as easy to meal prep a juice as it is with other meals (salads, etc)  you can definitely find ways to make your life easier. You can wash the greens and the peppers, peel and chop the roots and the fruits,  and place them in the fridge in a glass container.

If you’re really in a rush, it’s possible to buy freshly squeezed juices at many health foods stores. You can usually find fresh orange and lemon juice easily, and often ginger and turmeric as well. I often find cold-pressed shots with ginger and turmeric, which you can substitute in for your semi-homemade juices. Powdered cayenne pepper is in almost every store, so you can always add that. Just make sure to mix very well!

Don’t use sugar or sweetener: Avoid using any sweetener or added sugars in your immune boosting juice . A few years ago I would add sugar to every one of my juices and smoothies, but I stopped when I realized how many extra calories I was taking in. Nowadays, I only use a bit of raw honey in my tea. Processed sugars and sweeteners might taste better if you’re used to them, but I promise it’s really easy to get away from using them. After just a juice or two, the natural flavors of the ingredients will start to come out more, and you won’t even miss the sugar!

Buy the best oranges: The best way to get a naturally sweet and delicious taste in your juice is use amazing oranges. Choose oranges that are heavy for their size and have some wrinkles in their skin. These ones will have the most juice, and also taste the sweetest.

Avoid oranges with sticks or leaves still attached, as this can indicate that the fruit was difficult to remove from the tree and might not be fully ripe.

Add more veggies for a greener taste and look: If you want a juice that’s greener in color, add more spinach or another green vegetable. A bright green juice looks better for Instagram too!

Make sure to stay away from made-from-concentrate and other non-fresh juices. Most of them are made using a LOT of added/processed sugar, which adds up very quickly.

You can drink this immune boosting juice everyday: Drinking this  green juice everyday will help you not only to boost your metabolism and strengthen your immune system, but it can also give you clearer skin, improve your digestion, and help keep you hydrated.

You don’t even have to taste the Spinach (veggies) in this juice if you don't want to: One of the best things about this juice is that even though you're adding green veggies,  you basically can’t even taste them! It's the best way to eat your veggies without even noticing and still get the health benefits.

Drink an Immune System Boosting GREEN Juice every time you take a flight: Flying can be a really fun activity, especially when the final destination is amazing, but it can definitely take a toll on our bodies.

There are several tips and tricks I follow to keep my body healthy while traveling (check out the main article here! ) but the one I never miss lately is to drink an Immune System Boosting Juice before every flight.

Health Benefits from your Immune Boosting Juice :

Incorporating natural products rich in vitamins, fibers, and minerals into your diet is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and not get sick.

A real health goal should be removing all processed products from our diets and replacing them with natural and beneficial foods. Drinking a freshly made green juice every morning is a great first step, and it will have many health benefits for your body in the long term.

I’ve listed some of the health benefits from the individual ingredients in this green juice:

Spinach: This leafy green superfood is filled with fiber, calcium, iron, folic acid, vitamins (B6, B9, E, C and K) and other electrolytes such as potassium. Eating spinach may help reduce the risk of breast and prostate cancer, promote healthy blood pressure, and keep your eyes functioning properly.

Orange: The many benefits of the orange include: high levels of fiber and potassium, rich in Vitamin C, and a great natural source of folic acid.

Lemon: Similar to oranges, lemons are a great source of vitamin C, which has benefits that include healthier skin and eyes and antioxidant properties.  Lemons also help by increasing iron absorption, boosting the immune system, and even promoting weight loss (we have a full article with weight and body fat loss tips and tricks here)

Ginger: People have used ginger to relieve cold and sinus infection symptoms since ancient times, but this is not the only benefit of the root. It’s also loaded with antioxidants and other nutrients that provide antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric: Did you know that the main active ingredient in turmeric is called curcumin? This chemical helps promote heart and brain health, and may even prevent some diseases such as Alzheimers, arthritis, and depression.

Jalapeno Peppers: You might not think so, but peppers are loaded with Vitamins A, B, C and K, other nutrients such as carotene, and even antioxidants! Jalapenos are natural pain relievers, help you fight off infections, and also boost your metabolism and promote weight loss. They’re like spicy little superfoods!

  • Servings: 1 serving

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup of spinach
  • 3 lemons
  • 4 oranges
  • 1/2 cup of fresh ginger raw roots (peeled and chopped)
  • 1/2 cup of fresh turmeric raw roots (peeled and chopped)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Wash the Spinach under cold water.
  2. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze the juice out using a hand juicer; pour into a glass container.
  3. Peel the orange and cut it into pieces. Alternatively, you can use the same method as the lemon: cut in half and use a hand-juicer.
  4. Peel the Ginger and turmeric roots and chop them in small pieces (about a half inch).
  5. Wash the Jalapeno pepper and cut lengthwise to remove the seeds (but keep the skin).
  6. Use a juicer machine to juice all of the ingredients (except the lemon juice) one by one, collecting the juice in the same container.
  7. Taste the juice and add more oranges, spinach or roots as desired.
  8. Pour into a glass and add lemon juice to taste.
  9. Enjoy right away (with or without ice) or keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Shake well before drinking if stored overnight!

NOTES:

Serving: If the juice is too strong, you can add some ice cubes and let them melt to dilute a bit. Alternatively, if you like it strong, don’t let the ice cubes sit too long!

Storage: This immune boosting juice should ideally be consumed straight out of the juicer. If there are any leftovers, store in a glass bottle or mason jar for a maximum of 24 hours in the fridge. Don’t forget to mix it well, as the liquids tend to separate.

Equipment: I make my juices using a cheap juicer, and it works incredibly well. I use this one.
