10 Fun Christmas Activities for Families at Home!

Christmas is one of of my favorite holidays. It’s a time of celebration and happiness for most, when people come together with family to eat, relax and celebrate.

Every family has its own Christmas traditions, some people like to play Christmas games while drinking hot cocoa while others prefer to go ice-skating or to decorate gingerbread houses. I love holiday traditions but I also like to incorporate new ways to celebrate every year.

The holidays are the perfect time of the year to try new and fun activities as a family, many of which don't even require you to leave the comfort of your own home, so you can keep cozy and and have an amazingly festive atmosphere at home!

There are many talented worldwide creators and artists offering all types of online classes and workshops during the holidays. It's something special and unique to do as a family during the holiday season.

Some of the sites that I keep going back to, when booking an online class are Airbnb Online Experiences and Aviator, but there are many more where you can take a fun workshop, a class or even take on a new hobby.

It's also a great opportunity to give back to small business and local creators.

Here is our list of the best Christmas activities and classes to try this holiday season.

Note: This post was written in collaboration with Airbnb. As always, all opinions are my own!

Take an online cooking Class

My first recommendations on the list are pretty amazing: learn how to throw a holiday dinner party, make Mexican, Italian or Japanese food or e-Cook with an Indian chef!

I can’t wait to learn how to perfect these delicious dishes, get the chefs pro tips on how to entertain, and work on setting up a delicious meal on our dream kitchen! Nothing like well-thought-out family and friends holiday theme dinner party.

My boyfriend and I are spending the holidays by ourselves this year, but we are definitely planning on cooking a delicious meal, throwing on some holiday music, a Christmas movie after dinner, and ending the night with some mulled wine or holiday cocktails!

Learn how to make Cocktails At Home

And speaking of mulled wine and holiday cocktails… how cool would it be to learn how to craft perfect cocktails like the ones we always order in bars and pubs during the holidays?

Many of our favorite bars might be closed on December 25th, but that doesn’t mean we can’t prepare those cocktails ourselves at home! What makes me more excited about these online experiences is that you can learn a variety of drinks without leaving the coziness of your own home!

Get Creative

Once you have a cocktail, you obviously need some music... some really good music to be more specific!

Although it might be a little tricky to do this one yourself (unless you own a guitar, you can’t really follow along with the host Nicolas) I have decided to include this class on the list because I found it so fun and interesting! Not only do you get to listen to the host’s music, you can also learn about the history of the songs and the country of Uruguay itself.

If you’re spending the holidays by yourself and have been missing some meaningful human interaction, what a fun way to celebrate the end of the year and make some friends! I’m planning to book this one for us so we can listen to some music and have a fun time while wrapping presents!

Uruguayan Music on Holidays (Montevideo, Uruguay)

I’m more of a dancer, but if you love to sing then this activity is unbelievable: it gives you the opportunity to do it with a Broadway star! If singing (and taking singing lessons) is part of your bucket lister, what better way to dive into your passion than alongside a member of the Lion King cast on Broadway?

This is honestly one of the most unique experiences I’ve heard of! That’s one of the things I love most about the holidays: you never know which wish might come true!

Book a workout class

If you know me, you’ll know I’m a big advocate of exercising, clean eating and overall wellness. That’s why I always recommend staying active, especially during the holidays. This is one of the workout classes we are planning to check out this holiday season.

Play a Game

I have always loved a good holiday game. Growing up in Cuba, I used to play checkers, monopoly, and so many other games with my grandpa, and this holiday I can’t wait to try this new one. Check out the listing! The only question is, should we play on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or both?

Learn To Collage

If instead you prefer a more crafty project, learning to collage might be perfect for you! I’m thinking this collage might be a great thing to add to the end of your bullet journal, in a Christmas card or as part of my holiday mood board! If you love finding ways to express yourself and your feelings, this is the perfect way to reflect and sum up your experiences throughout year.

Take a Baking Class

An awesome baking experience you might want to try this holiday season is learning to make a pie crust from scratch. While it sounds intimidating, this experience provides the perfect environment to learn and ask questions. Before you know it, you’ll be able to finally master those lemon pie and chocolate tart recipes you have been seeing all over the internet!

Another of my favorite classed on this list is doing some vegan baking for the holiday season. I have been wanting to incorporate more vegan recipes into my diet since forever, and this just seems to be the perfect way to do so, especially since I have a big sweet tooth.

If you are a fan of vegan recipes, then you already know this is right up your alley. It’s always great to cook and bake with someone who knows what they’re doing to help you and answer questions, so this is the perfect way to learn something new.

You might even discover how to bake that perfect go-to snack that has been missing in your life!

Take a Language Class

I have always loved languages and being able to communicate with different people from all over the world. While I’ll need to brush up on my French and my German for when we visit France and Germany again, one project that I’m quite excited about adding to my Christmas list this year is learning some Italian.

It’s an overlooked language, but this is the perfect time to expand our horizons and learn a bit about it!
