Honey Cinnamon Iced Latte

I grew up in Cuba, where everyone drinks coffee; it's part of the culture. As a little girl, I’d sit around a small table with my grandma, my great-aunt, and her friends, and each of us had a coffee cup and saucer while playing table games. My cup was tiny, but the coffee was the same as theirs. They would brew strong cafecito or espresso, add sugar or honey, and sometimes soften it with milk into cafΓ© con leche, or balance it perfectly into a cortadito.

In my teenage years, I started drinking a cafΓ© con leche or an iced latte for breakfast every day. Then, in my university years, my love for coffee faded. When I moved to the States, coffee never tasted the same, so I became a tea girl.

How to Make a Honey Cinnamon Iced Latte Recipe

Recently, I have gone back to my love of coffee, and it is all thanks to this iced latte recipe. I rarely drink any other coffee besides this, because it is delicious, refreshing, and can turn anyone into a coffee person.

It’s smooth, lightly sweet, gently spiced, and feels like a modern twist on the comforting flavors I grew up with.

If you’re an iced latte aficionado who loves coffee, this recipe is for you!

Ingredients

1-2 shots of espresso: A good espresso is what makes any good iced latte. Make sure there’s a deep coffee flavor, but it’s smooth, with no bitter or over-pulled taste. I like to use 1 or 2 shots, but some people use 3 or even 4 if they like a strong coffee taste.

1 teaspoon of honey (Use 2 if you like it sweeter): Honey adds a natural, floral sweetness that melts beautifully into warm espresso, creating a silky, well-balanced flavor. Start with 1 teaspoon and adjust. Some honeys are stronger and more aromatic than others. I use a light honey.

1 cup milk : Milk brings creaminess and balance, softening the espresso’s taste. I use 2% milk, but you can use any milk you prefer, dairy or dairy-free.

Ice cubes: Ice cubes are essential for any iced latte. I use medium-sized ice cubes for everyday drinks, but we recently discovered fun ice cube trays, and they’re so fun to use when you want to make your iced latte feel a little more special.

Ground cinnamon (for topping): Cinnamon on top adds warmth and a subtle spice that makes the entire iced latte taste better. It’s the finishing touch that really brings this recipe together.

Brew Your Coffee

For this iced latte recipe, we recommend using espresso shots. We brew ours in a moka pot, but any espresso machine works just as well. If you prefer another brewing method, like a strong French press, that works too, just make sure it’s bold enough to hold up in an iced latte.

Sweeten with Honey & Let the Coffee Cool

This is a key step for this iced latte recipe. After brewing, let your coffee cool slightly until it’s warm but not piping hot. Stir in the honey until fully dissolved, making the coffee slightly sweeter.

Adding honey to extremely hot coffee can slightly reduce some of its delicate enzymes and antioxidants, and it can also mute its flavor. While it’s still perfectly safe to use honey in hot drinks, we always recommend letting your coffee cool down for a minute or two.

Once the honey is fully dissolved, allow the coffee to sit for another minute before pouring it over ice. This prevents the ice from melting too quickly and keeps your iced latte from becoming diluted.

Prepare Your Glass

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes; don’t be shy here. A well-iced latte is what gives that refreshing cafΓ© feel.

Pour and Add Milk

Pour your honey-sweetened coffee over the ice, then add your milk of choice. Stir gently to combine. If you have a shaker, shake it instead; it blends the flavors better and ends up tasting more delicious, almost like a cocktail.

Top with Cinnamon

Sprinkle a light dusting of ground cinnamon on top. You can also add a bit more and stir or shake again.

Ice Latte Recipe Variations

Vanilla Bean Honey Latte

For a slightly more indulgent version of this iced latte, stir Β½ teaspoon of vanilla bean paste (or pure vanilla extract) into the hot coffee, and sweeten with brown sugar instead of honey. Once poured over ice and combined with your milk of choice, sprinkle with cinnamon.

Oat Milk Honey Latte

For this iced latte, swap your regular milk for oat milk. Simply pour cold oat milk over your honey-sweetened espresso and top the drink with a layer of frothed oat milk.

Tips for Making the Best Iced Latte at Home

Use Cold Milk

For a true iced latte, always use cold milk to keep your drink refreshing, creamy, and perfectly chilled without watering down the coffee.

Adjust your ratios

The amount of milk you use affects how creamy and milky your iced latte will be. More milk creates a smoother, creamier drink, while less milk makes the espresso or honey shine through. Experiment with different ratios to find your perfect balance.
